Whoa. That was potty mouth?! My apologies if I traumatized anyone.

Pattytx goes into attack mode way too quick. You are allowed to be rude, because this is free? I’ve dealt with because I’ve learned so much here, in spite of the Seniors taking out their frustrations on posters.

Here is more typical Free Advice. The OP is asking if he is exempt from overtime because he works on a farm. Here is the Senior Member’s response:

You know what?

If I were you, I'd quit.

You don't really need any money to live anyway.

And if you decide you need money, then there are just tons of jobs waiting in this depression.

Tons, I tell you.

That’s not legal advice by any stretch. It’s a pompous senior member attempting to belittle some employee that is asking a simple question. Wow. I'm outta here. And Pattytx, you're still a jerk.

Don't let the door hit you in the tushy on the way out.

Well, I was under the impression that Salaried / Exempt employees had to meet certian parameters before the "exempt" could be legal. For instance, an exempt employee cannot be docked for taking a 1/2 a day off, and cannot be held to an inflexible schedule since they're not expected to punch a clock.

An exempt salaried employee cannot, unless intermittent FMLA is involved. But that was not the question the OP asked. The question what "What does salary mean?" And the answer is, by itself, nothing.

an exempt employee cannot be docked for taking a 1/2 a day off, True, unless FMLA is involved, or it is the last (or first) week of employment

and cannot be held to an inflexible schedule since they're not expected to punch a clock False. Just because they do not punch a clock does not mean that they cannot be held to a schedule or that they get to set their own hours. They are exempt from being paid overtime; nothing else. They are still subject to employer scheduling rules.
