What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? WI

Hi, I can't find any particular forum to submit this in so I put it here. Sorry if it makes anyone mad.

I bought a vehicle off eBay. I bought it from another state. Here is the dilemma. The seller lives in VA. The title is KY. I live in WI. I flew down to VA and picked up the vehicle then drove it home to WI.

After getting home I noticed this title says it needs to be notarized. WI titles don't need to be notarized. Will the KY title still needs to be notarized despite that fact?

The seller already signed the title and I already signed the title. Some people are saying it's screwed because they have to be signed in front of the notary and we already signed so the title is trash.

Some say I can send it back to them in the mail and they can have it notarized and send it back to me. The fact I already signed it though...I don't know if they can get it notarized.

What do you people think will happen? Thanks in advance!!!!

ya, they are pretty much right.

you singing it doesn't make any difference. The problem is him getting a notary to witness his signature. As you have said, it is supposed to be done in the presence of the notary. Since he already signed it, that would be a bit of a problem. I would contact the seller to see if he will try to get his signature notarized for you. If he can't, then he is going to have to apply for a new title, sign that one in front of a notary, and send it to you.

Is there probably a lot notaries who would notarize it...he did sign it but..I mean...if he shows his ID I don't see why it would be a problem.

Have you been down to the DMV tag office and asked them. It is possible that if you are in a different state that your state will not require the notarization on it. I know I have bought a few cars in Kentucky and brought them back to Tennessee and I have never had to have it notarized before I switched it over. Tennessee simply did not look at it or they just don't care The notary may only be required if you were going to re title it in Kentucky.

A friend (who was the seller) of mine ran into a similar issue. He took the title to a notary who just had him sign it again and notarized that new signature. It was processed without any issue.

You might not need it to be notarized. Try DMV first. I would try about 3 different offices before giving up. In Virginia, you dont need it to be notarized. Usually, I follow the law of the state that I am registering it in.

I am in no way a pro, or a legal advisor.
