What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? IA

My girlfriend is living in a rented house with 9 girls total. Their landlord stops by their house almost every single day to "check on things". A lot of the stuff he is checking is unnecessary, and they have already asked him not to come unless they call, but he still shows up almost EVERY DAY. I was just wondering if the renters have any right to privacy, or how they should get him not to come around so much.

Being a landlord myself, that is not typical at all. Myself and other landlord friends I have prefer to stay away from the property as much as possible and never drop in. In CA the landlord must give 24 hour notice before entering a property.

You might want to look around for hidden camera's, sounds like the guy is a perv.

Don't know why your girlfriend and the nine others are so helpless that they have to contact you. Your girlfriend should write the landlord an official letter about the daily visits and send it to him via registered mail, return receipt requested. She should inform him that the daily visits could be considered an invasion of privacy and remind him that 24 hours notice must be given before he comes to do repairs. The letter should be very formal in nature and detailed. She can always hire an attorney to draft the letter for her. If the letter to the landlord comes back, tell her not to open it but to keep it for evidence.

Is this unit they rent a licensed rooming house? I would suggest your city / county govt center zoning desk can tell you if there is one on file or not or if one is even required. I dont see alot of valid reason to be around daily either , any tenant who is bothered by it should complain in writting. BTW if a rooming house lic is required and not on file fair odds are zoning might send someone out to look at the house , and the tenants should not be surprised if zoning/ inspections post a condemn order to clear out the house ( too many people with out lic or if house doesnt meet local rules for that many unrelated people)

Yeah, he's a horny toad. The girls themselves are going to have to tell him to stop the pop-ins and give notice.

OP's not in California.
OP is aware of where he is. The same 24 hr notice rule applies to Iowa.

At the tenant's request or with consent. Iowa Code section 562A.19(1). A tenant may not unreasonably withhold consent, and there is no requirement that the tenant be present. Unless an emergency, but for any other reason, the landlord must provide 24 hour notice and enter only during reasonable times. Iowa Code section 562A.19(3). A landlord may enter the apartment to perform a routine welfare check with the prior written consent of the tenant (an agreed service of the landlord). Iowa Code section 562A.19(1).

Is this a dorm or other college housing?
If so, the girls would complain to the resident advisor or college housing administrator instead of to a boyfriend. OP clearly stated gf is living in a rented house.
