I am eligible to take the California High School Proficiency exam in California. If a student is over 16 years of age and they pass the test they can leave school early with parental permission. I plan on taking the test and leaving the area to escape going to high school in Oregon in a prison town with my neurotic father. What will happen if I pass the test and leave school without parental permission? What if I forge a signature, what happens if they find out??

If you leave home without your custodial parent's permission, you can be reported as a runaway and forcibly returned.

Also, unless your parents give you permission to leave high school even completing the exam will not get you out of compulsory education.

Also, even if they allow you to take the test and leave high school this does NOT make you emancipated! You are still a minor and subject to all the liabilities of that status including having to obey your parents.

And if you forge parental signatures, you might also be charged with a crime.

I am not worried about being reported as a runaway.
I am wondering if I pass this test and leave without parental permission if I will have to return to school when i am 18

So, you intend to live on the run and hide in a hole somewhere?

If you forge any required signatures, you might find that the exam is tossed out and you might later on have to take a GED.

I am amazed that you are not concerned about running away from home. You got this big career already planned to start at 16 while on the run with no legal ability to even sign a lease? Wow!

So you leave high school, with or without parental consent. What happens next? What kind of a job do you think you're going to get? If you were lucky, I might hire you to push a mop around but that's about it, and that's a long shot at best.

I do not need parental permission to take the test, however I do need parental consent to leave High School
Yes ...and forging their names could result in a criminal charge.

So, you could be a runaway with an arrest warrant. What a great time!

You aren't gonna get away with just sending in the "signed" (forged) form and getting out of school. Your parents WILL be contacted.

How does the school in Oregon come in to play?

Alright, so forging a signature is a no go.
As for Oregon, my father is moving there on August 26 and its up to my mom whether I have to live with him or not. My mom no longer wants anything to do with me. Can someone PLEASE answer my question?? passing the test gets you a certificate of completion of high school. If I leave high school without parental permissoin and move away on my own, then when I am 18 will my certificate of completion still be valid? I'm not planning on living in a hole i'm planning on moving in with my boyfriend and his roommate. He recently got a 1/4 million dollars after his grandmother passed away. Also, I Plan on attending cosmotology school when I am 18 and all that is required for the one I am looking at is applicants must be 18 and be high school graduates.

Which question is that? Leave school without parental permission or commit forgery?

In the first you will be in violation of state law and you and your parent(s) can face criminal charges for truancy if you are not properly withdrawn from school. In the other, you could go to kiddie jail.

THIS IS THE ONLY THING I AM WORRIED ABOUT!
If I leave high school without parental permissoin and move away on my own, then when I am 18 will my certificate of completion still be valid?
I have absorbed the message to not even try to forge a signature, FORGET about that part.

It is valid forever.
It is NOT equal to a high school diploma.

How so? passing the test gives the taker the equivilant of a high school diploma. Those who pass have the choice to discontinue high school or receive more high school education. Yes, it is illegal to leave school without parental permission, but won't I still have the certificate? I still will have passed the test regardless.

""The California High School Proficiency Examination (CHSPE) is a program established by California law (Education Code Section 48412). If eligible to take the test, you can earn the legal equivalent of a high school diploma by passing the CHSPE. "" http://www.chspe.net/about/
