The Situation:
An Englishwoman marries an American citizen and they reside in Los Angeles for 7 years. They divorce by mutual consent and the woman continues to live in LA for 2 more years. She has a half share in a business and is much more than merely solvent. She now wishes to marry another US citizen, with whom she has lived for 1 year.

When was permanent residence status given?
Generally, if she gets a green card on the basis of marriage to an American citizen, and within two years gets gets a divorce (or they otherwise decide it was a sham), then she will lose that status.


To answer the second question, living with or being married to isn't affected by immigration status. The only thing up for question is whether she is allowed to reside and/or work in the US legally.
