What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)?illinois

I have a problem with advice to be given to a minor who was sexually abused and now resides with family (who are taking advantage of her Soc Security funds). The minor desires to know her rights at the age of 17yr old in the state of Illinois. Minor Majority age in Illinois is 18 but for some things the age of 17 is allowed.

I dont know what advise, she desires to stay in the home but the treatment is not good. She has 11 months till she is 18 and wonders if she refused to stay in the home and wanted to move in with my family and daughters... could be placed into Jail or something like that. She is worried that if she came to our home as a refuge that some actions may come against our family....

Can anyone help guide me to help her?

No, she cannot move out at 17 without permission from her legal guardians.

If she were to run away and move in with you and your family, you all could be in serious legal trouble.

Perhaps facing federal charges.

How are 'the family' taking advantage of 'her' SS funds? Are they being used to purchase clothing, food and shelter/utilities for this minor? If so, those funds are being used appropriately and the 17YO should be thankful that someone is looking out for her.

I bet the 17YO is ticked because she can't have that money to party with....:cool:
