What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Pennsylvania My daughter found out a week ago that she is pregnant. Since then she has become an adult by law but the father is still a minor. He is afraid to tell his parents. Wondering what, if any my obligation is in letting them know of the situation.

How old is the BF at the time of conception? THIS IS A VERY IMPORTANT QUESTION.

Unless your daughter started the process some time ago, I assure you that pregnancy does NOT automatically emancipate anyone.

In fact, pregnancy makes emancipation that much HARDER... approaching "no chance in hell" status.

The bf was 16 at the time of conception....just turned 17 this week.
Your DD might have some LEGAL ISSUES to deal with...She was boffing a under-aged minor. I would tell your now adult DD to go have a consult with a Criminal Defense Attorney. NOW.

Does it not matter that they were both minors when conception takes place? Would you know my obligation to make his parents aware?

sigh...Tell you ADULT DAUGHTER to consult with an attorney. She has been shagging a, relatively, younger child and need to know if she can face criminal charges. If she is adult enough to boff and create, she is old enough to DEAL with the consequences of HER actions. DO NOT PAY FOR HER CONSULT.

You can tell them if you want, but I doubt you legally have to.

They will find out at some point by dad, maybe you should just let him tell them in his own time, or they will find out when dad gets served with child support papers.

Actually...As her ADULT daughter is an actual ADULT...OP is not "required" to do a thing. The question is...Does OP's ADULT DAUGHTER have an obligation to inform the parents of the LEGAL CHILD she has been kicking the light fantastic with of her pregnancy?

If the legal party in this situation can get off her butt and ask HER OWN LEGAL QUESTION I might answer.

OP is a legal stranger and needs to FINALLY allow her DD to deal with her own crap.;)

According to the gods of google, age of consent in PA is 16. So both are okay as far as criminal charges go.

Do you have to inform the parents? No. You are not legally or even morally required to do so. Your daughter is 18 and an adult. Your legal responsibility? You have absolutely have none. :D

Anything you do from here on out is because you want to, not cause you have to!

Congratulations, grandma!

AOC is 16...But other laws may apply. THE ADULT DD SHOULD CONSULT WITH A CDA. ;)

Dont let the others scare you.

§ 3122.1. Statutory sexual assault
Except as provided in section 3121 (relating to rape), a person commits a felony of the
second degree when that person engages in sexual intercourse with a complainant under
the age of 16 years and that person is four or more years older than the complainant and
the complainant and the person are not married to each other.
your daughter should just go through her pregnancy, have the baby then at that time file with the court to determine parentage, and child support. She should know that he has rights to visitation, but that does not need to be ordered at the beginning if they can get along. (although it is often suggested all of that should be hashed out at the same time)

you should not interfere with their (mom and dads) problem. You do not have to tell the boys parents, and I dont think you should. your daughter is an adult and even though it sounds like you dont want to you MUST make her act like it, especially now.

Again, I dont think you should tell them, your daughter and the boy should do it, when they are ready.

You know what always gets me about these cases?

Kids fight and demand their right to have sex with whomever they please. They want to keep the children made by bumping uglies in the back seat of a Plymouth because they are READY for that responsiblity...

But are scared to death to tell their parents because mom and dad will get mad.

Grandma, tell his mom and dad... he will need to go get himself a job and start selling things to support the child he made. May as well give him enough time to find work.
