I have a clinically insane and bipolar mother and a father who is physically and mentally abusive just kicked me out of the house, so now i am living with my mom. I am 16 and turn 17 on March 18. My parents are divorced. i have to stay in Chesapeake. What can i do so that i can live on my own or at least in better circumstances then i am in right now?

Turn 18.

There is nothing in your post to suggest that you are a candidate for emancipation.

Who exactly diagnosed Mom as "insane", and when?

There's a reason for my question.

stealth 2,
My dad kicked me out of the house because i stood up to him and refused to talk to him without someone there. Because he is physically abusive when he is pissed i try to put myself in a situation where there are people around so i dont get the crap beat out of me again. As far as why he was pissed, he flipped out about me hugging a friend of mine at church who is 19. Dad is convinced i am a whore even though i have slept with only one guy in my life. He is very controling and nothing ever pleases him.

cbg,
As far as turning 18, waiting that long will be dangerous and detrimental to my mental and physical health.

Then you can call CPS if you are really in danger.

Note, however, that simply living with someone who is classified as bipolar is not grounds for removal. Many people have their illness well-controlled. And I'm not aware of 'insane' being a legitimate psychological disorder, so it's unlikely that your mother's psychologist diagnosed her as 'insane'.

So, please be specific - in what way is your life in danger by living with Mom? As I said, if there's a real danger, call CPS.

If you are physically unsafe, your recourse is to call CPS. Emancipation is not granted on the basis of why you want out of the house, no matter what the reason is - it is granted SOLELY on your proven basis of self-support. Which you do not have.

Emancipation is granted rarely, and on the very, very few occasions that it is, it is granted to those minors who already have proven that they have both the income, and the self-discipline, to pay for 100% of their own support (rent, food, clothes, utilities, insurance, transportation, medical care, staples, school fees and supplies, and all the other incidentals of life) while still going to school and getting better than average grades.

I have a close friend who is bipolar, and if my daughter needed a place to stay I would not hesitate a moment to let her stay there. Being bipolar is not sufficient in and of itself to make your mom unfit to care for you. If you have called CPS and they have not seen fit to remove you from the home, there is usually a reason for that.

So, once more, in what way is living with Mom detrimental to your physical well-being?
