What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? CA

I signed up on AllYou.com for some gratuitous offers under an assumed name and gave a fictitious phone number (to avoid telemarketers' trap). The address was mine. I was surprised to receive a bill from them for a year of subscription to some publications I never requested. Can I safely ignore the bill (shows a balance of $19.90) because it is addressed to an assumed name?

I never received a copy, and I have no interest or intention to read. Singed online less than 2 weeks ago and received a bill yesterday. They were offering some other gratuitous offers through their Web site. I was never interested in their publications. I merely signed on (created a username and a password). I call it a random bill because it is addressed to an assumed (factitious/placeholder) name at my address. Call it John Doe.

Of course not. Never gave my real name or phone number. Very careful not to be a target of telemarketers. Did not read terms because I was not ordering anything but some gratuitous offers. Along the lines of free gifts or sample products (coupons). Even the email I gave is addressed to an spam-eating site and is automatically deleted.

I suspect you agreed to buy something without paying attention. It sounds like you may be guilty of fraud, although it would be very difficult to prove.

So what happens if A goes online in a 3rd-world country, uses real name and phone number and address of B in the USA and orders a bunch of items for B (and therefore sticks B with all the incoming bills) if A has a grudge against B?

Thanks for your reply. I have received several USB flash drives by signing up with other Web sites. All legit and no problems! But this is very backhanded and sneaky. By the way, the bill is coming from FL if that says something. As for pizzas, I don't believe they deliver to a 3rd-world country. Maybe they could do it from an Internet-free cafe without revealing their IPs?

The fact that you used an assumed name does not relieve you of responsibility. If you want to avoid paying the bill, you need to follow the instructions and return the bill, marked Cancel. If you want to continue receiving the magazine, then you need to pay the bill, assumed name or not.
