Exactly! And I don't know where they get it. Most of the time, I have to remind myself to eat or I'll suddenly realize I've eaten nothing all day. But them? Geebus, everything revolves around their next meal.
Oh, I know where it comes from! She is very physically active, and her body needs the nutrients. I'll be honest - my saving grace is that she eats at least one night a week at her b/f's, and another night at one of the girls' homes. She's insatiable when it comes to food! Thank God I don't eat a lot.

HA! I don't think any of my 3 kids ever went 2-3 hours between feedings except at night. Of course, they were monstrous children @ birth and didn't stop growing once outta there. But I would have gladly sold organs and appendages to be able to go more than an hour between feedings with any one of them. (And yes, I spoke with lactation consultants)

At 6 weeks, my now 13 year old was getting pumped breast milk so I could more closely monitor her intake. She was eating 9 oz every 90 minutes throughout the day.Considering the average child that age is getting 4-5 oz, it's not wonder it seemed like she was eating constantly. She was.

I'm not convinced that any of the kids go 3 hours between feedings NOW and they're 13, 10 and almost 5.
Ya got me on that, I was not considering children who are above average in weight. Matter of fact my kids, and most in my family are slightly below average. But those charts out there you have to watch, some are made up for breastfed exclusively babies(WHO chart is), but most are based on formula fed. Exclusively breastfed babies tend to weigh less then formula fed.

My point is though, she needs to give some thought here to her current schedule and how to get her supply up. Cause while some do have to supplement, there are many, many out there that exclusively breastfeed. Also many out there that do like me, with either a work or school schedule, plus provide for dads visits. Both my kids did go 2-3 hours between. I kept up with the first one, going to college full time and plenty of Dad visits. This time I work full time and I have had no problem keeping up with work schedule, although there has been no Dad visits involved, and I didn't add supplements in with either child.

I just hate seeing her basically saying she can't provide for Dad's visit, cause she very well could without offering supplements. She hasn't tried at this point, just pumping after every feeding will increase her supply and her supply will increase if that baby nurses long enough to get the hindmilk. You have to nurse long enough to get that hindmilk, not only so baby can gain proper wait, but also to increase your supply.

Just trying to give her some ideas to try, before she gives up and adds supplements.

Well thank god they did weigh less! LOL My 2 oldest were 8lbs 15oz @ birth, and both were born 2 weeks early. My youngest was 7lbs 5oz at just over 3 weeks early. None of them ever fell below the 98th percentile in height or weight. I cannot imagine what would happen if they hadn't been exclusively breast fed!

And that's fine. But very often on this board, when the subject of breastfeeding comes up, it starts a big huge debate full of "well *I supplemented and my kid is PERFECT!" or "well *I had enough milk to feed 25 kids, and still put enough in the freezer so that I could feed a 3rd world country! (which is the category I'd fall into)" or "Well, just stop breastfeeding after 6 weeks when it's not as beneficial anyway!". It's not really productive to the purpose of this board.

From prior experience, the OP should check into a lactation specialist. I have suspicions that she may not be leaving the baby on long enough to get the "2nd" milk that contains more fats and proteins to hold the child between feedings.

If I landed up with a child who inadvertently slept thru a feeding, I took advantage and pumped so that I had milk in the freezer. Kiddo was a piggy, but she gained weight well.

La Leche is also a great source of help.

Thanks for pointing that out, I know that debate well, and never meant to sound like I was starting that or to get others to start that debate. I will think a tad more before posting and make sure it doesn't sound so one sided next time.
