Need help with this captive situation:
Background:
The girl is 19.
She was a foster child/ permanent custody placement with my mother and her girlfriend since 2.
At 16 she started rejecting /rebelling; choosing to live with her birth mother who just got out of jail instead of the guardians who’ve been caring for her for so long.
Recently my mother gave her shelter and a big opportunity by allowing her to sleep in the guest house offering love and support for this girl.
She was doing ok, had a temporary job at Subway, and working as a promoter at a club.
((she got arrested and then released for shoplifting because she was not in the store when her group of teens stole from a store)- drug testing showed that she was clean. But there was a court appointed lawyer that pleaded out any charges by requiring her to get her GED and to attend AA meetings.)
And yes there is a slippery slope happening:
(Just before Halloween this girl stole some mailed packages from my mother’s neighbor.)
Her Hispanic boyfriend was seen hitting her at the club but no reports were made. She tends to be submissive to the violent types.
( In addition, Most probably this Hispanic family are illegal’s-I mention this for the facts involved)
Her real Aunt called the police and they went over but the police stated that they could not do anything because she is over 18 and she wanted to stay however, the aunt was able to convince the girl to go with her; . However, the Aunt mentioned to her about her behavior of the stolen mail; and this is her typical character as she denied it; and then as a dumb thing, the aunt let the girl go back to get her belongings from the BF house. so now she is back there.
Now it appears that the BF is drugging her and she is in her defiant slump.
I havent been able to reach her.
1 can we force that she be drug tested if she refuses?
2 if she doesnt get the GED and AA meetings completed by the summons, is there any leverge?
3 is it worth contacting the court appointed attorney to get help?
4 Would INS investigate?
5 is it worth pressing charges for the stolen mail?
6 is there anything that a family attorney can do?
i know she is over 18 but I am aware that intervention is sometimes enforcable until 21.What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)?
