What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? IN

I live in Ohio but co-signed a lease for my friend's apartment in Indiana. He failed to pay and now goes to court in a few days for eviction. I signed a lease and faxed back and he signed a lease but we never signed the same paper. At the beginning they said that I had to come in to sign the actual lease with both our signatures but I never did and never heard anything else about it. I know I am prob still on the hook but f there was some loophole I don't know about then that would be nice. Either way thanks for the help

When you co-sign you agree to take the responsibility of paying for yourdear friend. What did you think the whole signing thing was about?

You're definitely on the hook. All they had to do was to put the papers together.

And by the way. He's not your friend or he wouldn't have stiffed the landlord on the rent, knowing what would happen to you.

**A: there is no loophole but it gets worse. If "friend" can't pay, you will be liable for the entire rent. Read about joint and several liability.
