I live in Greenville County, South Carolina. My 17 year old daughter is 5 1/2 months pregnant and ran away from home to live with the baby's father who is 22. That only lasted 3 days before they got into a horrible fight and she moved in with a friend from school and her mother. Initially, I wanted to report her as a runaway, but wanted to give her some time to think about things and made her a deal. If her grades were not acceptable (if she failed ANY of her classes), she MUST return home. Well, her report card came in. 2 D's, 1 C, and an F! On top of that, she misses school for no reason and now, her insurance expired and her OB doctor won't see her. She was informed in Dec about her insurance info needing to be updated and this woman she stays with was aware of it also, but due to her irresponsibility and lack of income, my daughter is without prenatal care. They both swear that her legal right is to stay there. She won't be 18 until November 2011, and has no means of supporting herself so I doubt an emancipation would be approved, which she thinks she legally doesn't need to do that to stay there. This woman also refuses to make her move back home. I want her to move back home, but I really need to know my rights before I end up alienating my daughter and risking not being able to be part of my grand daughter's life. Please help me!What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? SC
