about 6 months ago i got a root canal, the dentist did not completely detach the nerve and i continued to feel pain, She then had to do another more complicated surgery to remove the nerve, during this surgery she left a loose piece of tooth under my gums, its now infected and i am going to lose at least 3 teeth and possibly my whole left row of mollars, my question is do i have a case for malpractice and if so how large of a claim?

You should ask your parent(s)/legal guardian(s) to take you for a consultation with a local attorney.

I would want to know if this dentist was a specialist or a general dentist.

If a general dentist, when they treat in the manner of a specialty they must practice to that level of dental care. If they couldn't solve the problem in the first course of treatment, it is not uncommon that a surgical procedure is needed. But that gets back to are they a specialist or a general dentist.

You do want a lawyer to review the record, and have an expert in the field review the records to see if the treatment was below the standard of care.

If the treatment is below the standard of care then you will have to discuss the remedy for what the treatment created. If the treatment causes you to lose three teeth on one side of your mouth, the reconstruction, done by a specialist will be costly, and all treatment needs to be covered.

Don't hesitate with this as you need by a good malpractice lawyer and a proper consultation as to what was done, if it was wrong and what needs to be done to correct the problem.
