Ok I live in Pennsylvania and during the previous summer I was in quite a predicament, at least for a teenager. I was at the mall with two friends and the one demonstrated how to stop an escalator while on it. I honestly didn't do anything the first time, and suggested they not continue doing it, for fear of trouble. So of course the person did it one more time and called it a day. But he also said he could only do it while going on the "up" escalator. So the other friend I was with decided to experiment, on the down escalator, which was PACKED with people. And of course, he figures out how to do it. I'm Not one that gets in trouble a lot. Hell, I get yelled at for a "C" on my report card, so you know I'm freaking out. A lady that was on the escalator when he stopped it yelled "*******" to him, which made me laugh. She followed him and told him what he did was wrong and so on. As the day continued we were stopped by none other than the mall cops and identified by the lady who talked to my friend. We were taken to the mall cop office and they took our information and all that fun stuff, but then slapped all three of us with 10 year bans! Just an FYI, shoplifting gets a 5 year ban. As previously stated, I was flipping out. The mall cops told us that if were caught on property, we will be charged with trespassing and sent to juvenile hall. I contacted the lead security guard there already, who told me to write a letter explaining what happened. So I did, but I never got a response. What I want to know is, what would I be able to do to help lower or remove my ban, and what does a trespass charge entail?

P.S. My one friend goes to the mall regularly and hasn't been stopped once, and the cop that stopped us even asked if she kicked him out and he said yes and still nothing happened! Are they serious with the ban and charges?

You can do nothing to get the ban removed.

The mall has an absolute right to decide who is and is not allowed on the property.

Trespassing is relatively minor... but would show up on employment background checks.

Why a longer ban than shoplifting? Because you idiots decided that endangering the health and welfare of an escalator full of total strangers would be fun.

I don't plan on finding out trust me. My friends tried forcing me to go but I refused. Can you actually go to juvenile hall over trespassing though?

We don't predict the future.

It is certainly a possibility.

You should be thanking your lucky stars that the cops weren't called immediately to arrest you for endangering those strangers.

you want to act like a jackass, don't risk someone else.
