What is the name of your state (missouri)?

I am enrolled at bryan college and have been going there for about a year now and was 6 months away from graduating with a 3.8 gpa when they blocked me from classes due to not paying a $100 monthly payment.
When I enrolled in classes I was not told about this monthly payment, only after all the papers were signed, I was told on top of my tuition which financial aid covered, I would have to pay $100 per month that they used to pay back my student loans with.
Well first of all it is my responsibility to pay them back, not the schools, second, they never told me this up front, third, after missing several payments, they banned me from classes (even though other students owed more money than me)!
After getting the run a round for weeks I was told to come in for a meeting. They told me to file a grievance form with them about the situation, so i did. Then after a few more weeks they finally get back to me and told me they want to have a meeting with me and the vice president and the "new" executive director(the old one "retired" along with the lady in charge of the payments that i was having issues with)..kinda weird!
So I meet with them and they tell me they wont budge on the monthly payment and say it is to teach us responsibility! So either I pay them all the money I owe them and come back to class or I can drop and they will refund all of the money I have paid into the school back to me.
Well I do not have the money to pay them so i chose to get my money refunded. Sounded too good to be true! Well it was!
After having the executive director tell me i will only get part of my money back because it will be prorated, i called the vice president who told me I would get ALL of it back, no tricks! He said I would get all of the money that bryan college had received refunded to me and i could pay my loans off with it.
Well then I am told i have to come sign a drop form in order to start the process but i didnt fall for it. I told them i would not sign anything until i was given a number that i would recieve back in writing and signed. They started acting weird then.
Next i get a call from the vice president who tells me they will run the numbers for me and let me look it over, which is perfect but now he changed his story. He now says, i will get all of the money "owed" to me back! I told him he said something different at first and was trying to play me. He lied of course and said he said that from the get go.
So my question is, do I have a lawsuit? They charge a payment that is bogus, they kicked me out of school because I could not afford it, they lie to me about how much money i will recieve in return, the education i got there was a joke(i have a 3.8 and have rarely opened a book), also my life plans and finding a job has been directly affected by them doing this and now giving me the run around!
What can or should I do? Please help!

As of now I have roughly $30,000 paid into the school, $20,000 in loans and $10,000 in grants. If they prorate it then they will offer me somewhere along the lines of 4-5000 and leave me dropped out of school, no degree, wasted a year and a half of my life, made me sacrifice jobs, and leaving me owing about 15-16,000 in student loans for an education that I was not allowed to receive!

You can't say that you object to the $100 payments after you had been making the payments...

you only objected to them after you couldn't make them anymore and they wouldn't allow you to remain in school. Here's a hint. In the real world, if you don't pay your bills, you lose certain privileges. If you can't pay the school, the school won't let you attend. Shoot, at a real college, even if you GRADUATE, if you don't pay your remaining balance, you don't get your DEGREE. How's THAT for fair? I know people who spent 4 years in college to get to the end, not pay the balance due and NOT receive the paper that says they finish, NOR did they get transcripts.

So... put on your big kid pants and if you want to finish school, pay the people what you agreed to and owe them.

ETA: and you weren't blocked from school for no reason, you were blocked from school because you owe them money. You've got to learn to be honest as well.

I understand how bills work. Yes I paid at first because I was not aware of what I was actually putting it towards. Then I find out that any college expenses are suppose to be taken out of my student loans and pell grants.
I dont care about your buddies who didn't get their degree because they couldn't pay, they must have actually owed the school "tuition" not money to pay back my tuition through student loans that are not supposed to be taken care of until after I graduate!
So obviously you are just some idiot who likes to post his/her opinions and know nothing about the legalities of this, so please go mess with someone else who doesn't care, I actually am looking for help!
Grow up!

DH went to VA Tech for his undergraduate studies. Graduated in '92 with full honors, received his degree and became quite gainfully employed soon after. Roughly 8 years later, he needed a replacement copy of his transcripts. Called VA Tech and they told him to go pound sand.

Why?

Because he owed $60 for a parking ticket back in '90. They refused to hand over his transcripts, his diploma, etc, until he paid the campus parking ticket.

Do you get what I'm saying?

When you owe money to a school, they take measures to make sure you are not unjustly enriched. For some reason, they seem to believe that they, in turn for providing you with resources for a better future, deserve compensation (crazy, huh?). In my hubby's case, they refused to hand over copies of his transcripts. In YOUR case, they've kicked you out of school. Both schools are completely justified.

The only difference seems to be that my hubby felt awful and embarrassed over the ticket (which wasn't even HIS, but was his car ~ a friend had borrowed it). You seem to believe that you're entitled to your degree sans payment.

Bleh.

That makes absolutely NO sense. You AGREED to pay the monies. Doesn't matter if it were for tuition, books, or kleenex, you AGREED to it.

What are you saying? That your entire expenses were paid via Federal student loans?

*sigh* CourtClerk is actually one of those strange creatures that we call "experts." If she can't help you, it's quite likely that no one can.

She's that good. But do feel free to continue insulting her. It will only make the others here that much more eager to help you. (that was all sarcasm, BTW)

She IS a grown-up. She's actually the most mature person in the this convo. :)

yes I know all about the parking ticket problem, several friends of mine have had to deal with that as well. I just dont think I am making this clear enough for you guys. Do you people come here to just tell EVERYONE that they are idiots and NEVER have a case?
I have been reading on this site for hours and havnt seen but maybe 1 or 2 people who actually are being told they "might" have a case.

So, let me be very clear.
1. I was not informed of this payment until after I was enrolled.
2. I signed no papers stating that I would pay this monthly payment, nothing of the sort! (even the payment of parking tickets is agreed to and signed at most major colleges)
3. This money is suppose to be paying back MY LOANS! Yet none of it has been put towards them.
4. Several students owe upwards of $900 and have not been blocked from classes, I owe $600. (sounds like a form of discrimination to me)

So... myabe that will make it a little clearer. Last time I checked, any contract without a signature is not a contract...unless its verbal, but that would not apply in this case.

And me paying on it has no impact on this at all, I did not know what I was paying on. When I found out, I stopped!

Well i'm sure your two degrees for Blogging out of Rhode Island State University were pretty cheap!
Going to this school is expensive but you cannot get a degree in exercise science at a state university here....and the universities about 5 hrs away that it is available, well it takes 2-3 years to graduate, so in the end you are paying the same.

That is true, this school is a joke, the teachers are jokes, and most of the students that attend would be lucky to have an IQ over 105 or a shower within the last year. I dont know how so many low income and unintelligent people can pay that kind of money, but they do.
As for me, I graduated from MSU with my Bachelors in Electronic Media Production before I was 21. So I'm not the guy to step on, I dont set around all day, I dont watch tv, and I am done hearing your comments. Unless you have something useful to say, goodbye!

1. I was not informed of this payment until after I was enrolled.
you should have addressed the fee then and if you didn't agree with it, dis-enroll.

2. I signed no papers stating that I would pay this monthly payment, nothing of the sort! (even the payment of parking tickets is agreed to and signed at most major colleges)
so, how were you ever made aware you owed it?

3. This money is suppose to be paying back MY LOANS! Yet none of it has been put towards them.
is there any info online so somebody else can read about this? What you claim really doesn't make a lot of sense.

4. Several students owe upwards of $900 and have not been blocked from classes, I owe $600. (sounds like a form of discrimination to me)
I guess you just pissed of the admin. and they likely didn't. Based on how you presented yourself here, I'm not surprised.

so, does that mean you ignored an item on your bill for $100/month for a year and a half and when you finally looked at the bill and saw it, you refused to pay it anymore?
