I have my husband's records from the nursing home he was in when he passed away but they do not include the daily PEG tube feeding records which are important to me.

Is the Nursing Home obligated to turn over copies of those records also? I am assuming that each feeding had to be noted and detailed as to whether it was finished, interrupted and how many calories fed each time.

Again, am I entitled to those records?

Thank you for any help you can give me.

Flowers first of all, I am very sorry for your loss; but please let me ask. What are you hoping to accomplish and why is this so important?

Yes, PEG feedings are absolutely part of the chart and it seems that you already completed the medical records release form, so you would have the right to access all information in the chart.

Check the I&O (Intake & Output) part of the records look for an amount that would be recorded every 3-4 hours.

It could also be documented in the nurses notes section.

It would be shameful if a nurse had missed a feeding. But it's unlikely that he missed a series of feedings (change of shift nurses usually catch mistakes from the previous shift, not repeat them). Even if a feeding was missed it would not have resulted in any harm to your husband.

Call the nursing home, ask to speak to the charge nurse or nurse supervisor. Explain to her that you have a few questions about your late husbands care and ask if she has time to meet with you.

I hope this helps and I hope you find closure.
