What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Il

My friends was fired for posting on facebook... wish me luck on my first day back hopefully i dont loose my cookies or fall on my face lol....she had been sick for a few days and was going back to work that day. She was fired. Their reasoning being her comments could hurt the office (she is a nurse for an OBGYN). Can they really do that? How does that hurt the office? Any insight would be helpful. Thanks!

Her exact post read...

She posted this the morning she was heading back to work after being sick for a few days.
The exact answer is, that is something she can be fired for.

Her best option is unemployment.

I'm just trying to help her out. She's my best friend and called me freaking out just a bit ago. She has no idea what she is going to do now. She has two kids to take care of. Just trying to help her out and see if there is anything that she can do. This just seems rediculous to me. Any suggestions would be great!

She needs to file for UI.

And she needs to NOT post anything on FB she wouldn't want her Grandmother, priest, employer, child or spouse to see.

UI = unemployment?
She don't post anything that her Grandmother, priest, employer, child or spouse shouldn't see.

I just don't see how what she posted is a big deal. Please explain.

It just doesn't need to make sense. there is a limited things on the scope of being wrongfully fired, and that is basically race sex religion.

Anything else in the whole wide world, or World Wide Web is a reason to be fired.

I wouldnt even have any of my employers or co workers on my facebook. at all.

Does she have any grounds for wrongful termination? If so, how does she go about doing that?

She wasn't wrongfully terminated.

HOWEVER.

Given that she's a nurse - is she part of a union? Does she have an employment contract or CBA?

Teach, I get that you're trying to help - but really it's best if SHE can sign up.

What seems crazy? That a person/entity can't be FORCED to keep somebody on their payroll that they don't want to? (Excluding prohibited reasons, of course).

The flip side to that is that an employee can't be forced to work for a person/entity if THEY don't want to.

What a country!
