Can i refuse an apt because of this?

It's that time of year again when i have to rent, i have this lady, who has great credit, two kids, I think she would be a great addition to the place. I live on the bottom floor. Here is a possible problem. don't know all of the details yet. i will be speaking to her later today. She confided in me her ex is in prison and tried to do something to her youngest, she did not tell me everything because her daughter walked into the room. I got to thinking this guy is a nut and when he gets out will find her. i don't want any drama but i like her.My question: can I legally refuse her if I don't feel comfortable with he situation considering i live in the same house?

The FFHA (Federal Fair Housing Act) offers protection for housing based on race, color, national origin, religion, sex, familial status or handicap. Familial status refers to minor children living with a parent or guardian, not that they have "drama".

Isn't being married (previously) to a psychotic loon covered under FFHA? Its not her fault she married a nut. Even in loony-toon Connecticuttttt?

Really, the prospective tenant must have the brain the size of a grape to be telling people this.

If the OP does not want to rent to her then the OP does not have to.

Must be Bridgeport area.... yet another democratic state that is going to raise income tax rates like Illinois did, 60% increase.

Other advice for the OP is to move out of Connecticutttt.

You do not have to rent to her or give her a reason. Keep it simple. If you want a reason, simply tell her you have to give the curtesty to other people that have applied and leave it at that.
You really don't want that drama, I wouldn't. Here is an example. I had a applicant, seem alright, checked his records, he was arrested as a stalker.
Threw his application in trash can. Days later, he called demanding why I didn't rent to him. I used the excuse above. Couldn't tell him the truth. Didn't want him to stalk me. Now, if I did rent to him and he didn't like things, guess what? I don't know and didn't want to find out.
Yes, you feel bad, but you just can't trust people in this world today. YOU need to protect yourself.

Bliiy, i think her telling me that shows her character instead of lying. She has great credit seems very educated, has a great job she has had for 11 years, no past evictions or criminal record. i am not worried about her. her ex is in jail on attempted murder(trying to kill her) bad divorce. He will be in jail about 5 more years The first thought is when he gets out he's going to come looking for her and i might be caught in the crossfire.
