What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? GA

Good Morning, I've read through my county/state court's websites but wanted to ask this question here before I called them (wait time is horrendous and I'm at work).
My wife left the family a year ago June 4th 2010 - went to another state after another man. She left our 13 yr old son with me, whereas I became a single father and have been this past year. He lives with me and goes to school right around the corner, etc.
I've been civil about him visiting his mother, and he's set to go next weekend to Florida to see her for the summer. We're still married, no custody orders, etc.
I would like to have some sort of temporary custody or emergency custody of him - in case she decides not to send him back to me.
Does abandonment fall into play here? It will be a year on June4th.
Other than that, there are no issues in the family (except her infidelity). Thanks all who reply - I appreciate it.

You should have dealt with custody as soon as she left. There is absolutely no way that you can get anything decided in a week.

File for custody now so as to get the ball rolling. Hopefully that will deter her from doing anything stupid like refusing to return the child after summer visitation.

Thanks for your reply - and you are correct. I feel like a fool for allowing it to drag out this far. Time to get the ball rolling.
I appreciate your help - thank you.
