There are many instances (and websites) where 17 in the state of MI can leave home and the police do NOT list them as missing children, do NOT search one moment for them, do NOT make them return home, etc.

There are many websites saying that the Holocaust never happened, too. Doesn't make it true. Nor does the fact that SOME 17 year olds are not forced home by the police mean that it is legal for a 17 year old to leave home, or that someone who harbors her cannot be legally charged.

In Michigan, if a child is 17, a person who assists them cannot be charged with anything. It is true that the police will usually not go hunt down 17 year olds UNLESS the parents push the issue. A 17 yo will still be classified as a runaway if the parents report them as such. It is a realism that they will not get real excited about hunting down a kid that is within 6 months or so of becoming 18. Unless there is a concern for the child's safety, they have figured out it really is not worth the expense.

In Michigan, a parent can actually allow a child to leave home at 16. The child is not emancipated and the parent is still legally liable for providing for the child but the child can legally leave him if given permission.

Most of what the police will do is driven by the parents of the child.

I'm glad OP stamped her feet and pointed out that she is NOT the lover of the minor child. NO, she is merely the mother of the adult who is porking the minor child!

So there's no harboring a runaway statute in MI? Interesting.

not once they are 17. If the runaway is under 17, it's basically like most other states.

722.151 Aiding or abetting violations by juveniles, or harboring runaways prohibited.
Sec. 1.

No person shall knowingly and wilfully aid or abet a child under the age of 17 years to violate an order of a juvenile court or knowingly and wilfully conceal or harbor juvenile runaways who have taken flight from the custody of the court, their parents or legal guardian.
part of the problem is: in Michigan, the juvenile courts have jurisdiction only until a child turns 17. They are not legally an adult until they are 18. That one year period is a very odd time in Michigan and it takes some serious efforts on a parents part to get the police or courts to do anything once the child turns 17.

Under the Juvenile Diversion Act (act 13 of 1988)

MCL 722.822 definitions:

(e) “Minor” means an individual less than 17 years of age.
