If a person is sentenced to a drug program can the offenders probation officer call the family members and room mate and tell them details of the offenders info. while the offender is in custody?What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)?

I understand this, and I know that the criminal record is a matter of public record. My question is, can the po decide to just pick up the phone and call the offenders mother, grandmother, room mate, etc., and start telling them this info?
Nobody call the po and requested this info. he just started making calls and just told them. Can he do that?
