Should I tell them or not?

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? PA
Good afternoon, I was terminated in January & got depressed, because I was denied unemployment. During this time I used some drugs. This past Monday I took a test for employment & passed. They let everyone know that they will do hair strand tests for drugs. I've never used drugs on the job, only socially. Should I tell them that I've used recently or is their a way I can cleanse my system? Thanks in advance.

if you want to try to scam a hair follicle test, you can read a thousand stories on the internet. This is not the type of forum that will help you get around such tests.

and it doesn't matter if it was only socially or not. It is still illegal and a positive test shows you are willing to break the law. Not the type of person a company wants to hire, whether it be due to drugs or something else.

You seem to be quite confident they will discover drug use. Since I have never been in this situation, it is difficult to suggest any particular action. Do you take the test and gamble you aren't caught or maybe even that it is a bluff or do you just refuse to accept the job and make sure you aren't tested.

I really don't know what to tell you. Sorry.

It is not illegal to lie to a potential employer about illegal drug use.

If you tell your employer you use illegal drugs they almost certainly will not hire you. If you take your chances with the test you may or may not pass. (since you have not said what kind of drugs, or how long it has been since you used them, nobody can give you an idea of what the result will likely be)

I see no advantage to telling them.

I would not say anything.
Just do the test, and if it comes up positive, know you will not be hired.

Well I would say that it was a prescription drug and HEY, get your own doctor.

oh, unless they were the OP's prescription meds, the fact they were prescription is irrelevant. and get your own doctor? what kind of foolish BS is that supposed to suggest.

I see now why you are having so much trouble with your speeding ticket.

While true, if the lie is caught, either before or after hire, you will not have a job about five minutes later. And if fired after hire, you'll now have yet another termination to explain to future employers.
