Response time now that petition amended

aaaand i have another question today. i'll use fake dates.

If a petition for modification of custody were filed 04/01, the defendant has 30 days to respond, and an amended petition is filed 04/23, does that amended petition render the original response time null and void - do the 30 days start over from 04/23?
