Houston, TX. Have a neighbor with an annoying bug zapper on her property but not 12 feet from our house. Can't sleep at night in the summertime, can't watch TV in peace. It is on 24/7 and she says she will never turn it off. HOA won't help. This has got to be considered a "nuisance". How can I legally make her get rid of it?

Don't let not getting any sleep bug me??? That's your advice? Have you done any research on these useless devices? They have been proven to kill only beneficial insects and have no effect on mosquitos whatsoever. They attract more bugs than what would normally be present. They also spread disease up to six feet away. Again I ask, what can I legally do to remove this nuisance?

Nothing because the noise that it makes is less than the legal decibel limit to be considered hazardous and a nuisance. If you desire a second opinion, contact the State Health Dept. Noise Divison.

bug zappers

JMG,
You're kidding right? Or are you one of those leftist eco-crusaders? Unless you live in a tent, living in Houston you would have to have air conditioning and with your windows closed there is no way the noise could be loud enough to be disturbing.
As to bug zappers only killing "beneficial insects" that is nonsense propaganda.
When I moved to my rural Pennsylvania home 6 years ago we found we could not sit outside at night at all. We were constantly being dive bombed by large moths, some with a 4 inch wingspan!. So I bought 3 of the largest bug zappers I could find, each supposed to cover 1 1/2 acres and set them up to run 24/7. I had to cut some of the grid on the outside of these to allow the big moths to get in. By the following Spring I had made a significant dent in the population and we COULD sit outside. Since then I only run them at night 3 seasons a year. It IS true these zappers do not attract mosquitoes but if you add mosquito attractant and replace it monthly they do just fine thank you. I have since moved to Michigan and seem to be under threat my the leftist eco-terrorists. i set up my first bug zapper and a few days later found a anonymous (of course) letter in my mailbox spouting the same nonsense about bug zappers. I ignored it, figured it was just someone with too much time on their hands. Well I had to go back to PA for a week, just got back tonight and found my bug zapper had been stolen. Such is the mindset of these people. They know what is best for us, and our rights do not matter. Luckily I had brought a second zapper and put it up immediately. Tomorrow I will file a police report, buy 2 or 3 more zappers, and install some security cameras.

Stupid is as stupid does; the thread has been zapped for over ten years. Leave it fried.
