What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? NY

Hello,

I was in a fender bender last year. I still have to collect the remaining $200 that is owed to me by the offending party. So far he has only managed to pay $500 over the past year.

I have been more than patient with this guy, but I am wanting to get the rest back. I did not get a police report for this accident. However, I did get a signed statement of that guy admitting his responsibility and that he owes me for amount X. How can I possibly claim that remaining money that I am owed? Here is what I have in my possession:

A signed statement stating his name, responsibility for the accident, and for the money owed to me. On that very signed statement, I also included his driver's license.

What can I possibly do? Small claims court or what?

Thanks!

Sue the bad guy in small claims court. But, realistically, it's $200 - your time and effort expended by going this route will exceed anything you collect.

Thanks for the speedy reply. I would agree with that as well. Sometimes I think it's not even worth it for only $200. But to be messed around and have this pushed back and back, I feel like my niceness was taken for granted. I'm very frustrated with the way things turned out and probably should have let insurance handled it.

The accident wasn't anything significant. I can say anything in hindsight, but I guess I could have handled it more wisely. Please don't flame!

Is there any other means of pursuing the money other than small claims court?
