my 17 year old daughter has been going out with this guy who is 20. we really didn't say much about the whole situation. she is an honor student and has always been a good kid. Today my husband received a call from the school stating a male had called to the school and stated our daughter would be gone for the rest of the day. The school knows us, this is our 3rd daughter to go through the school system.

Needless to say daddy went ballistic. we have forbid her from having any other contact with him again.

my question is: is there anything we can do?

Restraining order.

How long till Sally turns 18?

Well, you are still in charge of Sally's life, you still get to pick and choose with whom she may spend time.

Start doing so. Take legal action to prevent him from seeing her if necessary. Be prepared for teenage backlash....

Are you sure that the caller is the guy?
Did you actually talk with the guy and explained him the whole situation and how are you upset because of his immature act?
Off course you have all the rights to start legal fight and get a teen clash just before she is an adult, but if you can avoid it, why not?
This young couple needs to know that they are under close monitoring by you, kind of probation. Why not giving it a try before shooting with all the cannons?

Yeah.... not on board with the whole "let's talk it out and then make cookies" approach.

OP, I say this as the loving step father of a daughte that just turned 18.

If she didn't hate me... I mean REALLY hate me with every single fiber of her being... at least once a year since she turned 11, I wasn't doing my job as a parent.

Your kid has a lot of friends but only two parents. Let someone else be the friend because no one else can be the parent.

Tell the nice young man that tried to illegally abduct your daughter from school that he was too cute for his own good... and that he should go find some grown ups his own age to play with.

I'd go further. Restraining order to start. And if he actually DID manage to take the child out of school? Kidnapping charges.

Restraining order based on what exactly? Are there any evidences that the male is the boyfriend?

Alex, the parent/s do not need to articulate any threat or show cause - the simple fact that an adult took the child out of school is enough.

Further, they can restrain ANY adult from having contact with their child - even without a threat being present.

Restraining orders for adults are not the same as those for minors.

Ok, so my question was if there are evidences that the BF took the girl?

Restraining orders appear in background checks, as far as I know, and can prevent the subject of the order from getting a federal job or a firearm license.
So you say that a parent can simply ruin somebodies life without any evidence or proof?
