Ottumwa Iowa.
I guess we left the door "open"/ajar when we left, and the city came in and entered. Was this trespassing by the city?

You must have a really big house. Was it the mayor, the councilman, the meter reader, a fireman or a policeman? Someone else? All the above?

My stepfather called me and told me that the city had entered. Let's assume that they walked in on the city being there.

To be fair, I just want to know if them entering a home without permission on the sole reason of, "the door was open" is trespassing. The details shouldn't matter.

The details do matter.

I'm willing to bet you $20 FA Bucks that, if your family member was robbed and disabled in an attack and the front door left open (God forbid, of course), you'd *want* the cops (The City) to check out what happened without an Official Invitation From The Homeowner.
