What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? MA - My exhusband and his attorney approached my attorney the week we were closing on the house to ask for a reduction in child support - he had already previously agreed to split the commission that had to be paid to the re agency when the house sold - during the week of closing I said I would sign the next week (as there was too much to do this week with the closing) and my attorney (and his) had an "attorney agreement" that he would put aside his share of the commission and pay me out of his proceeds from the sale of the house. Well, it's now three weeks later and they have reduced the price from 1/2 the commission to 1/4 and have reduced the "agreed upon" new child support price three times. I clearly was told there was an "attorney agreement" and now this has changed three times - what is an attorney agreement if it can be changed? Anyone heard of this?

Not one response?? Me thinks the quiet/non response means there is something terribly wrong.....

Unfortunately, my attorney is giving me the run around as well, first she is in court then vacation, then power is out then court again, then an email that "i will call you tomorrow" and nothing.... I just want to know if the "attorney's agreement" means anything and if anyone (attorneys) have ever said/done this and what exactly does it mean...since the ex's attorney has now changed the agreement three times since the "attorney agreement" was told to me.

Your problem is with your attorney and not with what others have seen or done.

Send a certified letter to your attorney with return receipt requested, asking your questions regarding your case. Give a reasonable time for a response. I like two weeks, but that can change based on the situation. If he does not reply, you might go to the Bar. Lack of communication with client is the #1 reason for attorney complaints according to some professional liability insurers.

Okay, talked to the attorney finally, my attorney said the ex's attorney and her client have basically reneged (spelling) on that deal and they now offered the new deal which is 1/4 commission and another reduction in child support. My attorney says it is unethical but not illegal....no one explained to me that this "deal" might be something that could fall apart - when my attorney said "attorney agreement" I (stupidly) thought it was a done deal....
