What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Michigan
We have a son who is now 19. He is adopted and was considered "special needs".
When he was 12, he committed several crimes, and was taken out of our home and lived in either foster care or a residential placement until he went to college. He is now receiving a full-ride scholarship to a state university.
The crimes he was charged with were felonies, held in abance, and dropped when he successfully completed his probation. Several of the crimes were against his siblings.
We continue to owe the court tens of thousands of dollars, which is a huge debt for us, and is keeping up from helping our other children with schooling. Is there some way to make him now legally responsible for this debt?
