hat is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Oklahoma Is it illegal for my 19 yo daughter and her 17 yo boyfriend to hold hands at school?
My neighbors who's 17 yo son and my 19yo daughter like each other and want to date, have called the sheriff and threatened me with a protective order and told their son(who is adopted and told us he is abused) that they would file sexual harassment charges on my daughter and get a restraining order against her if they "touch each other at school. These people have lied to the police about me and claimed I was trying to get their son to "run away and live with me" because the boy was texting my daughter and telling us he was beat and abused by the mother. I called DHS and reported it and nothing happened, now school has started and they see each other at school, where they eat lunch together and hold hands. The boy's "sister who is their biological child" watches him and tattles to the parents about it. They have threatened to file sexual harassment charges on my daughter without his consent, telling him they can sign for him because he is under age. They have also threatened to file a protective restraining order against her. She and a girlfriend talked to the school counselor about it and were told they would investigate , but the next day the counselor talked to the boy and he said he told her everything but she was not helpful, and told him he would just have to wait until he is 18 in 11 months to have anything to do with my daughter. They will not even let him go out of their house or have a phone or computer privileges, he does not have a drivers licences or car, but the biological sister has all of these things and has a boyfriend she can go anywhere with. They told him they are trying to "protect him against my daughter because she is 19. Is this legal?? These are good kids and are not having sex and don't want to untill marriage, they just want a normal boyfriend-girlfriend relationship.

You have two separate issues here.

1.) Is there a law that prohibits a 19 year old and a 17 year old from holding hands? No, there is not.

2.) Can the parents of the 17 year old prohibit the 19 year old from seeing or having any contact with their child? Yes, they most assuredly can.

It is quite, quite legal for the parents of a 17 year old to limit who that 17 year old can and cannot see, hold hands with, telephone, Facebook, or have any other contact. Even if the actions the 17 year old wants to take is not prohibited by statute or case law.

At 19, and as an ADULT, your Daughter can certainly understand she is not to go after a LEGAL CHILD. If your ADULT DD can not understand this basic concept, perhaps you need to involve a Doctor to help her.

I don't really have a problem with 19 and 17. I don't find that particularly inappropriate. But at the same time, it is still true that 19 is a legal adult and 17 is a minor. Therefore, if Mom and Dad say no, then it's No.

The 19 year old was probably held back for a year or started late. It happens.

And, ditto to the others. The parents of the minor have say over what their minor child does. That is not to say that I agree with the parents' actions or behavior towards the child, just that they have a right to institute such controls.

Okay, BadAdvice. Now show us the law that says the parents have no say over what their minor child can do or who they can see as long as they are over 17.

We'll wait.

My daughter did not "go after this boy"

First of all my daughter is a Junior in High school because she has had health problems in the past and was unable to finish her school on time. Second , she did not "go after this boy" they have been Neighbors for over a year and the boy and his younger brother would come to the fence and ask if she could go walking or play with them and the other neighborhood kids. Maybe you think this is inappropriate but we do not believe you have to be all "grown up and adult" or want to be having "sex" at a certain age. She has only dated one boy before and he was older than her and a preacher's grandson, and he turned out to not be very nice or christian, trying to get her to do drugs and have sex. Is everyones mind in the gutter these day's??? they just decided they wanted to be boyfriend and girlfriend and talk at school and hold hands!! They do not want to do anything inappropriate!!!

They cant if the boy's parents say they can't.

If the parents want to push it, she can expect a restraining order.

They can dictate whom the child spend s time with until he turns 18.

You're not paying attention. If the parents say 'no', then holding hands IS inappropriate.

The fact that she's a nice girl and she has dated other people who aren't so nice is completely irrelevant. She could be Mother Theresa and the parents don't have to let her hang out with their son.
