What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? MN

I contacted a lawyer who has worked on cases against the collections agency before. He sent me an email back within the hour saying that I should send him the Summons and Complaint paperwork by fax or email. I replied with the information on it but not the actual paperwork to which he replied again within the hour:
"Would you send the summons and complaint to me? Either by email or fax to XXXXXXX?
We can talk next steps over the phone once I've reviewed your papers."

I talked to a friend of mine and she made me all worried about if I should fax the lawyer the paperwork. She told me that he could charge me for just looking at my paperwork when we haven't even set up anything. Could he do that if I decide not to go through with the case with him?

How will he know if he can help you unless he sees the paperwork? Attorneys aren't equipped with ESP once they pass the bar exam.

You can check the State Bar website to see if any complaints have been filed on him.
