I have an odd situation and I am finally seeking advice on a forum. I was married to a girl who had a green card from Thailand. She got it when we were together. Well, after about a year and a half things turned sour and I had to end the marriage. We parted ways on good terms and she left to go home to Thailand. We had no joint assets, no kids, and nothing ties us together now.

We got married in Miami Dade County. in March 2008. She left to go to her home in Nov 2009. Since then, I have moved to Tampa. I have tried so many times to figure out what forms to print or how to go about doing this but every time I just give up because I get confused.

Well, I will be going back to Miami next Friday. If I need to go somewhere to drop something off whatever I can.

I just need to know what forms to fill out and how to get this process started. Any advice on this will be hugely appreciated.

I hope I provided enough info but if not I will be home in 5 hours and could provide whatever details needed.

Thanks. Thanks. Thanks!

You can file wherever you have established residence but you will probably need to get a lawyer to help with service. If you don't know how to find her you may be able to serve by publication but there are specific rules about how much effort you need to make to find her.

You really need an attorney to handle this divorce if you want to make sure that it goes through.

I can find her easily. We are on good terms. She is just half way around the world. I have lived in Florida my whole life. Shouldn't it be paperwork that I need?

I was thinking I would just need to be directed to the right paperwork. From my research I think I need this: http://www.miami-dadeclerk.com/library/family/form5.pdf

I really don't have the extra cash right now to hire an attorney. If that is the solution, I think I might just procrastinate even more lol. Any help here would be appreciated.

This may help:
Court Programs - Self-Help

In addition, IIRC, FL has a low cost attorney referral program where you can get an initial consultation very inexpensively. It might be worth doing just so you can get the lay of the land even if you're going to do it yourself in the end.
