What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Oregon
There is a training session for two days in a row that is almost 2 hours travel time from the normal site of employment.
Both days are expected to be 8 hours of training.

Should employees that are required to go to these meetings be expected to travel back and forth?
That would make for an approximate 11-12 hour day for these employees. that is if the weather is good.

Personally, I'd have them stay over but legally there is no right or wrong answer to this question. It's up to the employer - it's legal either way.

Are the employees exempt or non-exempt?

All employees are excempt..with one employee working 20 hours part-time.
As she asked me prior to going to the boss on this.. Since she usually works 3 days a week, that means she has fullfilled her workweek on just these two days.
Is that right? Does travel time in this case count towards hours worked.

no. it doesn't count toward hours worked, unless boss says it is.

you cannot demand it, and asking will probably get you the answer you seek. (yes or no, either way totally legal)

You will get mileage for the driver usually. If you cannot handle a 12 hour day, you must really do poorly, when participating in family events and vacations. If you really get that fatigued, sleep while someone else drives.
