I wanted to know, what would happen to me if i dropped out of high school?
How big would the fines be? are there any?
What happens if i don't pay the fines?
What if I leave to another country for emergency reasons? would I have a warrant for an arrest when i come back if I'm called to court and don't appear?.
I live in the Los Angeles area and I'm 16.
Thanks in advamce.
Regards

You and your parents can be charged with crimes. Your parents can go to jail, pay big fines, and you can go into foster care.

You will also doom yourself to a life on welfare, panhandling, or, maybe, working some nowhere minimum wage job hoping that when you reach 65 or so that there is still Social Security money available to pay for the one bedroom toilet you will have called home most of your life.

It would be a tragedy if you chose to pursue such a wasted life.

I agree, it would be tragic to do that to yourself. Take some time and explain the problems you are having. Perhaps we can suggest a better alternative.

Absolutely. Please talk with a school counselor or teacher you trust about your future.

You see i spoke with a counselor already and explained my problem. The man simply said it was my decision. He didn't explain anything to me.
That's why I'm here i have no clue what are the the criminal charges or how big the fines are. I want to know for my well being and not find out later something i should of known.

Does it matter? Without an education and without any job prospects, how would you pay a fine? Do you want to be in foster care?

Your parents could go to jail if they do not at least try to get you to go to school, and anyone who puts you up if you run away from home can also risk jail and fines.

If you drop out, the odds of your life leading to drugs and crime, and other high risk behavior, skyrockets.

The fines are large enough. Jail time for your parents is even worse. Looks like at least $2500 and a year in jail.

But the fine and jail time are insignificant compared to the real penalties. You'd be sentenced to a LIFETIME of poverty and struggling for the things that people who get an education take for granted.

So the famous actors who dropped out of school and make more money than you'll ever see received fines, placed in foster homes, and parents were arrested?

Most of them receive tutoring on site, so they didn't drop out of school.

Besides, the fact that a couple of people got away with it doesn't make it right. OJ got away with shooting his wife, but I wouldn't recommend that you do it.

Can always count on an idiotic comment from this one...

Pssst, Misto - he sliced her with a knife.

OP... seriously - why do you want to drop out. That is a decision with far-reaching consequences, and few of them turn out positively.

Which of today's child starts dropped out of school?

I know a few who were emancipated, but as Misto said, most of them go to school onsite or a continuation type school

If you have the talent, the looks, the connections, or even the just plain dumb luck to join the ranks of famous actors, you don't need advice from the likes of us.

Didnt know we are talking age. OP never even told his (or her) age. Many school dropouts like I said have made more money than you will in your lifetime (John Travolta,Jim Carrey, Johnny Depp, the list goes on thank you)

Actually, OP did tell his age - he's 16. Which just goes to show that your reading skills are about at the same place as your logic skills.

And how many teen-age drop outs did NOT make millions? Far more than those who did, I assure you.
