I have a question regarding a high school student stealing money from his parents to gamble. Parents do not know and his growing debt. Soon "older" guys will be asking him to pay up. the student is in therapy because of failing grades-due to his late night gambling that noone but the therapist knows about-
legal question is what rights do the parenthave to be notified by the therapist about stolen money?
Ethical question-what is the therapist responsibilty protecting their client's confidentiality?

Big concern is the time involved and the safety of the student and the parents property? if the money is not paid back

I'm the therapist and the parents don't seem interested about their son's therapy they think its due to school-they don't realize they're kid is stealing the college fund to gamble with-really more of an ethical dillema than a legal unless someone gets hurt and doesn't report it? don't know please help

Why in the world would a therapist have to ask on an anonymous forum what s/he should do in a given circumstances?

If you're for real, you need to find another line of work.

You are the therapist but cannot answer your own profession's ethical queries, correct?

That's a shame. Go back to school and take some ethics courses.

Let's see. This is a forum set up for people to volunteer to help those who have legal problems. Volunteers spend a great deal of time helping people who really need help. The policy is that people should only ask their own questions and not ask for someone else. Not to mention that people are expected to tell the truth in order to get good advice.

Minors are not allowed to gamble either...any legit gambling site would have a serious problem if minors were gambling on that site.
