No it isn't. You (and your parents) agreed to it when you signed and turned in the little piece of paper at the back of the school's handbook.
It's excessive. That's the punishment for getting caught using a phone for the third time.

What was the ringer that came on during the assembly?
It wasn't even offensive. It was harmless. Was a Party Rock Anthem ringtone. So ya know, everyone just started dancing...

.
but regardless of whether you believe it excessive or not, you and your parents agreed to abide by that rule. So, why did you agree to the rule if you thought it excessive? Are you a masochist the likes excessive punishment?

And obviously for disrupting school assemblies.

Show that your parents have raised you right and admit to administration what you did and take your lumps.

They're bending the rules now.

I'm pretty sure this isn't the forum for discussions like that.

They can figure it out themselves.

It's a sacrificial lamb. My friend's old phone (yes, with everything deleted).
well, apparently not everything. It still has a phone number attached to it (or at least it did when they found it). That phone number can be used to track a registered owner by those that know how.

and I hate to tell you this but deleting is a myth, just as it is on a computer. Nothing is deleted but what happens is the the data is ignored by the operating system so that sector is seen as empty and new data recorded. There are little machines out there that can suck the data from a phone, even if the data has been deleted.

while it is unlikely the school will go to the trouble of spending much time, effort, or especially money to discover the owner of the phone and your identity, be aware that it is possible.

Right now your best action is to forget this situation ever happened and to never speak of it again. There are a lot of criminals in jail right now because they did something stupid that gave them away. If not for dumb actions on their part, they would never have been caught.

There are legal methods- that the school can use which would give them the name of the account holder... If you don't know what they are- then be prepared that when the school finds out- expect your phone to be confiscated and/or "suspension or whatever" as well.

The prank may have been good- but every prankster understands there are consequences IF they get caught... you, and anyone else who called the 'hidden' phone, should just be ready for the consequences.

If you read the punishment your school has regarding CELL PHONE USE-
our first offense is pick up at the end of the day, second is pick up after a week I think, third is they keep it to the end of the year....sounds like he wants to jump straight to 3rd offense...
That's the punishment for getting caught using a phone for the third time.
You realise that the school can do whatever they want, right? And, in this situation, they deemed that the use of the cell phone and the disruption they feel it caused deems going directly to the 3rd punishment.. and guess what? They can do that.

Great prank- not fully thought out- you are lined up to get caught- and, the best part is, if this makes the school just out-right ban cell phones at school... you and your friends will be the great group who made it happen.

The phone they have was a pay per use phone, no name attached to that one. The phone numbers in the call log are contract numbers.

Yeah, I can't see the school going way out of it's way to recover data on the phone.

The main problem is that it's not actually the best kept secret in the world already. So I won't be surprised if someone comes looking. But I ain't handing over my phone.

Go on. Tell me what the methods are? Please? Go onnnn.
What about privacy of the account holder?

Yeah, but if I don't have my phone with me...I'ma investigate option B.

Yeah that would suck.

The only point where we screwed up was that it pissed them off so much that they locked the auditorium - which you can usually get in easy - so we couldn't get the phone back easy (we DID have a plan to get the phone back).

If they'd been smart they would have left it there and waited to see if we walked straight into their hands.

And if you'd been smart you wouldn't have played such an asinine prank to begin with, and then you wouldn't have to worry about how to get the phone back.

hmm, do you have cameras in your school? I wonder if there is video of you attempting to get back into the auditorium to retrieve the phone.

Honestly, if the perpetrators are common knowledge about the school, consider yourselves caught. There is always somebody that will rat you out. Brownie points are a huge incentive or the other possibility; somebody with a brown nose.

while they cannot force you to bring the phone to school and give it up, they can come up with punishment they feel equally appropriate.

Who are you? The Fun Police?

...At no point have we 'worried' about how to get the phone back.

People have different ideas of fun. Even when I was your age, that would have been a yawn.

And whether you "worried" about it or not, the fact remains that you don't HAVE the phone, now, do you?

We ain't bumbling fools. We tried the doors without the cameras.

Though, there is a camera that would have recorded us planting it - but we had that covered...ya know what I mean...But that probably is how they found it.

I wouldn't say 'common knowledge'....yet. Maybe we just start another rumor to spread alongside it. Or several.

Well, that's alright.

Haha. Alright. Passive aggressive much.

...we don't need it...? Are you following this thing at all?

And anyway, if you can yawn to party rock anthem, man, you need a health check.
it wasn't the anthem that caused a yawn. it was the context it was being used. to be disruptive.

and i love pranks by the way. changing keyboard letters on co workers keyboards is freaking hilarious. locking the husband out in the rain? hysterical! putting salt in the sugar bowl?? now that's funny.

but being disrespectful to an authority figure? not cool.
