Hi yes I just turned 16 in July and I was arrested with posseion of marijuana I'd say about 6-7 grams Ian not sure... I just hot my court papers today and my court date is Tuesday and I looked only the Internet and saw that class A misdemeanor can go to jail for up to a year and get a 10,000 dollar fine please also know this is the first time Ive ever been untroubled with the law or the cops first time being arrested and everything please give me serious answer Ian really worried and don't want to go to jail for a year..

You need an attorney. Start saving your allowance and (hurumph) job monies you get. Attorney's are pricey.

Maybe his parents have a college fund for him that he can dip into.

Isn't that why they slaved away at their jobs for all these years? So they can keep him out of the jug?

I concur with Blue. You need an attorney. A good attorney may be able to keep you out of jail. Depending on the circumstances and the judge, you MAY be able to serve a bunch of community service instead.

However:
1. Geekess is right. If you don't want to mess up your life, stop with the drugs.

2. You got arrested in July and have a hearing tomorrow, but just now were notified? At 9 pm on a Sunday? Clearly, you sat on whatever paperwork you received. When your life and future are at stake, don't ignore problems and hope that they'll get better by themselves.

I got arrested last month and a cop came to my house and gave me the papers. Last night.. If I can't get a lawyer should I plead guilty or what?
