What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? North Carolina

I was wondering if anyone was aware of any sort of possession laws were in place in North Carolina for a minor in possession of a tobacco product. I'm aware of the restriction on PURCHASE of tobacco, but I was unable to find in the State Statues any thing on actual POSSESSION. My son is 16 years old and I found him and his friend (16 as well) together smoking cigars. I can't tell him to just don't smoke, because that's hypocritical of me. I just don't want him or his friend to get in trouble smoking because they were on their way to a concert and were asking about smoking in public and I simply don't know what to tell them.

Thanks, your help is appreciated.

**A: what? You are an adult so can legally smoke. Your son isn't an adult and cannot smoke. Geez, tell him not to smoke period.

Hyposcrisy? Pleaze

I simply don't know what to tell them.
Try this:

You are not going to that concert, no way, not ever.

Don't smoke. I make the rules.
There are many things I do which you do not get to do.

Well... you COULD just quit smoking yourself. That is an option. Or, really, you could decide to be a parent. As an adult, you get to do things that kids can't - it's not hypocritical to enforce that. If it hypocritical for you to have a cold one whole watching the game, while telling your minor child that he cannot do the same? Is it hypocritical for you to drive (anywhere), while telling your minor, unlicensed child that he is not permitted to do the same? Is it hypocritical to tell a 3yo that he may not use a butcher knife while you've got on in your hand? Seriously... That's part of parenting - telling our kids that there are things they are not permitted to do because they're not old enough.

Of course, quitting smoking would be the best solution - healthier for you, healthier for the kid, and... not hypocritical.
