My husband hides his properties in US
I live in Brazil and I got married with a man in Brazil and then we went to NC/USA in 2003. A few months later I returned back to Brazil and he continues to live there and since then we are separated. I think he is a US citizen now in there. He never helped me or sent me any money. I opened a divorce suit in Brazil. He sent a paper to the court via his lawyer that he has no job or any property in US, however based on my investigation in internet he has a house in NC (property data is public there apparently) and he also work a company. What are my options that I can prove he has a house, has money in the bank and working in there?

Fairly good, if you can access the information.

I would suggest hiring a private investigator or a background check on him to obtain the information. The property records should be public information. The rest should be discoverable with proper investigation.

So you only lived as a couple for a few months? If so, what difference does it really make? Premarital assets would likely be seperate property, and if you have each supported yourselves and not each other, it probably does not make much difference.

However, none of us knows BRAZILIAN divorce law. You need to research that and see if you are spinning your wheels for little gain.

However, what is relevant is that the Brazilian courts do not have any jurisdiction over US assets. Therefore, unless there are Brazilian assets to divide that could be effected by him having assets in another country other than Brazil, it may be irrelevant for her.

Thanks for the response. How much would they cost? I do not have enough income to support that. Also, do you think a investigator can access bank account information in US?

Thanks for the response. Brazilian divorce law requires all the earnings will be divided equally after divorce, it does not matter how long marriage lasts as far as I know. I am not clear on your last sentence tough, are you saying I can not get anything because he earned the property in US? Are they not international laws that protects my rights?
