You forgot alimony. If this case is a civil matter and alimony is a civil matter, WHY doesn't contempt of both result in jail time?Failure to pay a small claims judgment will not result in jail time.
It IS possible for a civil judgment to result in jail time, though (Child Support).
If a bicycle is a vehicle and an airplane is a vehicle, why can't a bicycle fly?You forgot alimony. If this case is a civil matter and alimony is a civil matter, WHY doesn't contempt of both result in jail time?
Bottom line: If someone refuses to pay alimony, they can land up in jail, if someone refuses to pay a court ordered judgement they need not worry about jail. What's wrong with this picture? If a bicycle is a vehicle and an airplane is a vehicle, why can't a bicycle fly?
The fact is that statute allows for non-payment of child support to result in jail time in every state AFAIK. There is no such statute regarding non-payment of small claims judgments (at least not in states that I'm familiar with).
Alimony? I'm not sure if statute covers that or if it requires a contempt of court charge. Probably depends on the state.
zit is a conspiracy Bali. Big Bro just wants to see you behind bars.Bottom line: If someone refuses to pay alimony, they can land up in jail, if someone refuses to pay a court ordered judgement they need not worry about jail. What's wrong with this picture?
It's more sinister than that, if men don't pay women money, they end up behind bars, anything else appears to be ok.zit is a conspiracy Bali. Big Bro just wants to see you behind bars.
Yes of course you are right, more and more women are becoming victims of a system originally designed to force men to pay women. Hence the beginning of massive alimony reforms starting to sweep the country.Ahem...you need to rephrase that a bit!! If people don't pay as per their family court orders, then they land in jail.
