What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? I live in California. I'm 17 and I got a Minor In Possession of alcohol ticket, what am I expecting? I'm real scared it might interfere with my future.

What code section were you cited for?

i think the code section was 23224 (minor in possession alcohol)
and 23223 (open container)
So, you were in a car. (These are Vehicle Code sections.)

It is very likely that these will be filed as infractions in juvenile traffic court. It is also possible that you may have the opportunity for diversion in your county. It might be in your best interests to talk with mom and dad about hiring an attorney for you so that you have the best chance to keep this from becoming a misdemeanor conviction.

Yes I was in a car at the time, but the driver was completly sober. Will I be able to get my drivers liscense? Court date is jan 20th and I turn 18 in march? I will most likely tell my mom to see if we can get an attorney.

Quite honestly, if you are so concerned about your future, what are you doing foolish things like being a MIP at your age anyway? These are exactly the kinds of things one who is actually thinking of their future DOESN'T do.

I'm a senior in High School, It's my last year. What senior has not tried alcohol by their senior year. Its not like I'm drinking and driving.

Quite a few. But, the point is not whether everyone else is doing it, the point is that what you did was unlawful.

If filed as a misdemeanor and not as an infraction in juvenile traffic court, then you will have an opportunity to obtain court appointed counsel if mom and dad cannot afford an attorney.

I suspect fines, probation, and alcohol counseling will be the most likely results of this.
