I want to get a divorce and alimony. How do I hire an attorney who will get the fees for the divorce from my spouse? I'm on disability income so I don't have much money to work with.

That's not how it works. You'll be expected to pay your own fees.

So open the yellow pages and start calling attorneys.

Depends. If spouse is earning much more than OP, then it is not inconceivable that spouse would pay for OP's attorney. Still, it is possible that OP would have to pay for the attorney and then ask the court to order spouse to reimburse him.

Still, your advice is correct. A local attorney would be his best bet for understanding the options.

How long were you married? What are your respectoive earnings (your disability vs his income)? How long have you been disabled, and are there no potential ways to bring in your own income (I am the child of a parent who was disabled and changed careers to something that worked around their disability)?
