I am in Illinois::confused: At my job the department that I work in is being phased out. It is a union shop as well. I am a skilled worker. What they have done is offer work in other parts of the plant. I would rather find work of my own else ware. Do I have to take one of the positions that they offer? If I don't except their offer can they fire me with no compensation or unemployment benefits? What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)?

Not taking an available job with the company is the same as quitting.

Family law

Sorry this item is a this area thought I was in another forum (employment law).
I anticipated this item being my plight in a few days from my job. Someone stated that it was like quitting but the department that I'm in is phasing out?

The department is phasing out, but you've been offered employment in a different department.

My skills are greater than what they are offering. If I am a skilled worker why or how can I settle for just anything?

If you have a better job, you are free to quit and take the better job. If you don't, you should be thankful that they're offering you a job.
