NYC Parking (Meter) ticket

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? NY

I just received a NYC parking ticket for meter parking.
I'm wondering if I can dispute it based on technicality.

Ticket states that: Meter is in effect from 7:30am-7pm.
Sign actually states from 8:30am-7pm.

I recd ticket at 10am, in case someone asks.

You got the ticket at 10am. The beginning effective time makes no difference in your situation.

What a crock, trying to skip out based on a technicality that doesn't even apply to you.

Wow, I didn't know I would expect to receive such a stupid comment from a "senior member". It is so bad that I'm trying to skip out of this meter ticket? Jesus Christ~! You must have a short temper or something to comment on such a small issue.

I have no problem with using technicalities. I do have a problem with someone who has difficulty reading and comprehending. Whichever time limitation you use, you still lose.

FYI- A technicality, in your scenario, would be if the ticket was issued received before 7:30am or after 7pm.

Receiving a ticket between 7:30am (or 8:30am) to 7pm is called a violation.

Fight the ticket - it costs you nothing. Provide documentation proving your claim that the sign was different from what was written on the ticket and then let the judge decide.

You won't know for sure any other way.

So you are suggesting this person waste both his time and that of the court and judge to listen to his ****amamie story?

The SIGN is irrelevant. The TIME is what makes the difference, and it was well beyond the time that might have been in question if the sign was challenged.

You're kidding right? When the standard fine went up to $115 EVERYONE started fighting everything. I hardly think wasting the judge's time is a valid concern.

I have seen ALJ's toss tickets in similar cases. ALJ's are human and unpredictable - worth a try.

You're kidding right? When the standard fine went up to $115 EVERYONE started fighting everything. I hardly think wasting the judge's time is a valid concern.

I don't know where you found your information, but according to THIS site Violation Codes, Fines, Rules & Regulations I can't find ANY meter-related violation that is over $65 (with the exception of standing of a non-commercial vehicle in a commercial metered zone, which is $115).

I have seen ALJ's toss tickets in similar cases. ALJ's are human and unpredictable - worth a try.

I'd have to give even the ALJ a little bit of credit for not tossing out a ticket that is so obviously valid. Human and unpredictable they may be - STUPID and IGNORANT they are not.

I was referring to parking Notices of Violation in general, NOT meter violations specifically.

You'd be surprised at what alot of ALJs do. Again, it doesn't hurt to try and see what happens.
