What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)?
Maryland

I restructured a settlement recently leaving additional future payments. Now companies want to buy the rest.

I restructured a settlement recently leaving additional future payments. Now companies want to buy the rest.
For my settlement I receive an annuity with several fixed payments every 5 years and I modified 2 payments; since then, a lot of companies have been sending me "offer" letters; some with checks ($5k, $10k, $15k) inside stating "this is a real check but you must call to activate it" I even got one with a dollar bill in it with a handwritten note "this is your first payment".

Tonight a messenger came to my door saying they have "free money" all I needed to do was to call and he left a number with my relative to give to me.

Personally I am fed up with all this. What can I do?

Thanks in advance.

Just say no.

Shred the contents of the envelopes and toss them.
Tell anyone coming to your door that you are NOT interested. (Consider putting a NO SOLICITORS sign up, although these days, even these signs are usually ignored.)

Agree, handle as you would any other sales person, advertisements, etc. (ignore, throw away, say no thanks .....) I know it's aggravating - we all get unsolicited "stuff."
