What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? My state is Georgia. My daughter is serving a 10 day out of school suspension because she and another girl were arguing in the gym. After questioning my daughter and others, my daughter and the other girl were never close enough to make physical contact with each other, were quite a ways apart when my daughter was pushed up against a wall, and then thrown down to the floor by the weight lifting coach and the other girl was held by another coach. She was suspended because the principal says she caused a major school disturbance. She has to go before the tribunal on Monday, because the principal wants her sent to alternative school. When given the papers needed for her appearance, the deputy sheriff told me that more than likely she will loose, but she has seen the tribunal change their minds. She said, " the girls didn't fight, my times have changed, what do they do if they fight, lock them up and throw away the key," I am wondering the same thing. I feel her punishment has been excessive, and if she is put in alternative school, that is extreme. What should I do?What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)?

Have your daughter go to the tribunal and plead her case. What type of argument was it? Have you talked to the coaches and principal or just your daughter and her friends?

And does your daughter have a history of this kind of behavior?

Also, find out what the subject was that was being argued about.
This can often lead to finding the origin of the problems being handled with the suspension option.

re: the bolded above - why did this happen? Did your daughter make physical contact with the teacher? Even if she did not make contact with the other student, if she fought with the coach, that's a problem. What necessitated the coach putting their hands on your daughter in the first place?
