Need ex-girlfriend's stuff gone!

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? NJ

I ended a relationship with my live-in girlfriend in September 2011. She moved out 9/28/11. She left a lot of her belongings behind, and refuses to retrieve them. Can I legally start throwing her stuff out at this point(almost 6 months)? Should I draft a letter stating "if you don't retrieve your belongings by x/x/xx they will be discarded"? If so, what is an acceptable time frame? Her stuff needs to go ASAP!

send a certified letter giving her 30 days, then remind her by 2nd certified letter at 15 days, then toss her stuff on day 32.

Are you CERTAIN that's a legal treatment for abandoned property in OP's state? Did you look it up?

Your suggestion leaves a bit to be desired.
The 2nd notice is not required
And, if our OP tosses the stuff on day 32 (as you suggest) then the OP may be subject to some significant penalties.
