Deed, property tax South Dakota

Hello all, My wife has been paying property tax's on her great grand parents poperty in North Dakota. Her father was just going to let them go, but she wanted the property to remain in the family. So for the past 15 years she writes a check to the Golden County North Dakota Department of Revenue. Several years ago her father passed away. The property is still in his name, all the tax notices come to our home in Montana, What legal right does she have to this property if any? Can she get the deed changed since she has been paying the property tax's?

We are niot talking acres here, more like a biuling site that pnce had a house on it, maybe 150'x90' lot, tax payment is $20.00 per year.

Thank you

Denis M

you may have property rights to it -- you are the only remaining relative to the original owner?
Um...no. What "remains" is irrelevant. The OP(wife) was probably not even alive a the time. Besides, even if the OP(wife) did inherit if probate(s) would open and get it to her, that does not give her property rights at this time.

Was your wife's father's estate probated? If so, was this parcel included in the probate and who inherited it?

If your wife's father's estate was not probated, its time for her to do so if she wants the land in her name.
