What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Louisiana

Hi, I hope someone can help me here... I was divorced last year and couldn't afford an attorney, so I just went along with what my ex's attorney filed. We have no kids and there was really nothing to "contest". We had a house, but my husband at the time we bought it was the only one on the loan. But Louisiana is a community property state. Nothing in the divorce agreement says anything about giving that up. I was told recently by someone that I should have got half of the equity that was in the house at the time of my divorce because of community property, and at the time there was about $50,000 in equity. Since we are divorced now and it's all finalized, can I go back and try to get my share of the equity? The only thing the divorce papers say is that he gets use of the house, but it doesn't say anything about him having to "buy" me out or me giving up my rights to community property. I'm just curious as to if I can do anything now or just let it go.

Thank you

Liz

He was given the house in the divorce decree. Therefore he doesn't have to buy you out. He was the only one on the loan. If you were on the title you have to quit claim it to him. You can't do anything about it now. There was not fraud committed. There was not anything improper about him being granted the house if you didn't stake a claim then. AND, you are too late to appeal.
